"Yes but I don't have vision insurance!" But Do You Have Medical?
"Vision" vs. Medical.
Even if you don't have "eye insurance" your medical insurance may provide you an eye exam. Sometimes, this is a part of a well check benefit. Additionally, if you have a medical condition, your health insurance may pay for an examination. For example, if you have diabetes, then an eye exam becomes "medically necessary" and is covered. If you have cataracts or glaucoma, then medical insurance treats the examination as a medical exam. So when coming to the office, bring any insurance you have; you may be surprised to find that your exam is covered. Eye care providers are considered specialists; accordingly your copay will be the specialist copay.
